History of the PVC&E District

In the fall of 2007 the University of Detroit Mercy - School of Architecture’s Detroit Collaborative Design Center unveiled a plan for redeveloping the area surrounding Harmonie Park as the Paradise Valley Cultural and Entertainment District Project. The City and DDA accepted the basic concepts presented in that plan and moved forward in the spring of 2008 by making Phase I streetscape and infrastructure improvements.
In June 2009 DEGC and Detroit City Council held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Beatrice Buck Paradise Valley Park. The DDA began Phase II of improvements to the District including: upgraded landscaping and irrigation, lighting and audio systems, park furniture, a new water feature and performance stage.  This work was substantially complete in late 2009.
